This Proposal by Ken Jones is centered around working with 100 homes in a strategy to build stronger market mechanisms and case studies that neighbors can learn from. In order to accomplish the longer term goal, a larger proportion of Montpelier homes and businesses will need to take the efficiency and fuel switching steps. The first 100 homes and businesses will help accomplish the following:
- Test new pellet burning technologies
- Demonstrate the synergy between efficiency and fuel switching
- Open markets for expanding access to lower cost wood fuels
- Increase the capacity for weatherization services
- Integrate the home heating audit process with an evaluation for fuel switching
- Initiate an economic development strategy for Central Vermont
