Topic type:

History
[to be taken from “MET History & Accomplishments” -- link]

Current Situation

MET currently has no funding and has had no difference-making amount for over a year.

The Coordinator will often hesitate to begin projects if he sees little chance they can be seen through.

MET Makeup:

MET is a team of teams; currently, 7 are active
  •
    • Bikes [summary, or link to, accomplishments & ongoing work]
    • Communal Use [summary, or link to, accomplishments & ongoing work]
    • District Energy [summary, or link to, accomplishments & ongoing work]
    • Energy-use Assessment [summary, or link to, accomplishments & ongoing work]
    • PACE [summary, or link to, accomplishments & ongoing work]
    • Transportation [summary, or link to, accomplishments & ongoing work]
    • Weatherization [summary, or link to, accomplishments & ongoing work]

With earlier funding, and the wholly volunteer efforts of its Coordinator, Steering Committee, Team Leads and Members, MET has done the following:

  • Established a set of organization and operating principles
  • Established a co-working site

Shovel-ready Work

Currently on the table, ready to move forward given resources, is a set of well-defined projects and two well-defined programs into which many of the projects can be fit.

  • DIY Kits
  • Co-venturing with CSV to bring one shareable car and one shareable pickup truck to Montpelier.
  • Planning/tasking toward getting a CEAD referendum on November 2010 ballot.

(list these here; provide detail as an appendix)

Closing the weatherization gap in rental properties:

  • Why a volunteer component is needed here (see link ‘How MET is Sustainable and Replicable’)
  • MET VCEM performance (see link ‘How MET is Sustainable and Replicable’)

Associated Shovel-ready Resources

  • MHS service-learners.  This is a continually-available resource via informal agreement; however its leader, Anne Watson, is an active MET member.

  • Montpelier-based NGO liaisons.

  • City Resources

Sustainability/Replicability

  • The information resources:
    • Most originate elsewhere (i.e. little primary research needed
    • Once posted, a largely sustainable aside from periodic updates.
    • But become re-useable elements of value-add MET projects and programs.

What Must be Done Up-front (i.e. requires initial funding)

  • The Deli, Step 1: Marketing – a regular, local, print/radio/cable/internet media push, until the Deli is service established as a recognized, predictable local presence.  link: Steps to MET grant-readiness

  • Set-up required for the 80% Proposal.
